A wannabe all rounder, Shehan couldn’t spin the ball even if his life depended on it. Any ball that does spin can be classed as a surprise delivery…. a surprise to Shehan. When batting it seems he sometimes gets his sports confused and bats as if he’s got a squash racquet in his hand which probably explains the inability to convert his starts.
An emergency call up one Friday night had this “rodent” who had not imagined ever representing a cricket team again make his debut for the Stallions less than 36 hours later against Elephant House on 13th January 2008. While he was unable to impress with the bat he had a reasonable game with the ball and that record has been maintained to date in his Stallion career. A frequent player since his debut Shehan was appointed captain for the year 2009 by “the powers that be”, and in April 2010 became the first Stallion to reach the 50 wicket mark, a number that still eludes him with the bat.
“Back in the days”, Shehan was a member of the Royal College U-17 team which became All Island Division ll Champions in 2000 and subsequently toured Malaysia where he obtained first hand experience of the country’s health care system.
